POWTS- Protection of Surface and Groundwater AND Septic Systems 101

Speaker: Mark Finger

Private onsite wastewater treatment systems (POWTS) are a water treatment/dispersal and water recycling process for wastewaters discharged from residential and public facilities.

Based upon years of onsite wastewater treatment research in Wisconsin as well as other states and globally, uniform standards and criteria for design, installation, inspection and management of POWTS have been codified.  The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services regulates the POWTS program.

The presentation will review wastewater streams, treatment/dispersal, and regional and statewide options related to POWTS in the protection of surface and groundwater.
