The private sector plays an important role in ensuring that local water resources are sustainably managed. The primary way to engage companies is through the Alliance for Water Stewardship (www.a4ws.org) and their global, voluntary water-use standard - AWS Standard. This standard guides companies through identifying and mitigating water-related risks they face in their own operations; but, also ensures that companies look beyond their fenceline for ways to engage stakeholders in addressing shared water-related challenges and opportunities.
