Protecting Coldwater Fish Habitat in Minnesota Lakes
Minnesota has a large program for protecting coldwater fish habitat in lakes. Fish such as cisco, whitefish, and lake trout require high oxygen concentrations in the cold water below the thermocline to live throughout the summer. Maintaining the high water quality in lakes that provide that oxygen is critical. This presentation will describe a program in Minnesota that protects that water quality by conserving forested lands in the watersheds of deep lakes.
